EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE UNTIMELY PASSING OF LAYLA

ANGELA CHARETTE

Introduced By: Senators Pearson, Picard, Paiva Weed, Lombardi, and Satchell

     Date Introduced: February 14, 2017

Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration

1

WHEREAS, There is an illusion that youth equals strength and invincibility. When that

2

myth is shattered, it leaves an agonizing void in the foundation of our beliefs, the belief that

3

parents should never have to bury their children; and so it is with utmost sadness that this Senate

4

has learned of the untimely passing of five-year-old Layla Angela Charette; and

5

WHEREAS, A resident of the Town of Cumberland, Layla was the beautiful baby girl of

6

BJ and Alaina Charette, and the beloved grand-daughter of Mimi and Pa, Nana and her husband,

7

Gerry, and the late Emile Charette. Her large and loving extended family includes her uncle

8

"Joe", her godfather, Joseph Kayata and his wife, Meghan, and their two children, Kellan and

9

Hudson, her auntie "De", her godmother, Deanna Law, and her aunt, Jennifer and family. She

10

also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and

11

WHEREAS, Layla was an angel on earth, whose "gentle smile and sparkling eyes"

12

melted the hearts of everybody around her. She was an "old soul", who bestowed unconditional

13

love on one and all and saw the good in everyone; and

14

WHEREAS, One of Layla's most enjoyable customary events was her family's "Monday

15

Night Dinner" which included an animated gathering of numerous family members, as well as

16

food, dance parties and Layla's favorite game, "Pass"; and

17

WHEREAS, In addition to her family, she leaves behind a panoply of teachers and

18

friends she had gathered during excursions to story time at the Cumberland Public Library and

19

Phantom Farms, Preschool at OCYL, Kindergarten at Community School and karate class at

1

Kensho-Ryu. Her life and curiosity was also enriched by the wondrous hours she spent with Miss

2

Debra, Miss Tracey, Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. B., Miss Noury, Miss F., Mrs. Broadbent and Sensei Erik;

3

and

4

WHEREAS, The most fitting tribute to Layla Charette would be a celebration of her life,

5

a life in which each and every day was lived fully and joyfully embraced. She was blessed with

6

the total love and support of her family and friends, and in return she warmed and brightened the

7

lives of all around her. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered; now, therefore be it

8

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

9

hereby expresses our heartfelt condolences to the entire Charette Family on the passing of Layla

10

Angela Charette; and be it further

11

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

12

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Bill and Alaina Charette and Family.
