A N   A C T

RELATING TO LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS - MINIMUM WAGES

     

     Introduced By: Senators Doyle, and DiPalma

     Date Introduced: February 15, 2017

     Referred To: Senate Finance

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 28-12 of the General Laws entitled "Minimum Wages" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     28-12-3.3. Minimum wages for employees of developmental disabilities

4

organizations.

     Commencing January 1, 2018, every covered employer providing services to five (5) or

6

more persons with developmental disabilities, that are reimbursed for such services by the state,

7

shall pay each of their employees, at least fifteen ($15.00) dollars per hour. For the purposes of

8

this section, covered employers are those developmental disability organizations licensed to

9

provide services pursuant to ยง40.1-24-3.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would, commencing on January 1, 2018, require that all developmental

2

disabilities organizations that employ five (5) employees or more and who are reimbursed for

3

such services by the state, to pay their employees at least fifteen ($15.00) dollars per hour.

4

     This act would take effect upon passage.
