S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING OFFICER YOMAIRA RODRIGUEZ, SERGEANT DERRICK LEVASSEUR,

AND OFFICER BARI CAMERON FOR THEIR HEROIC EFFORTS IN RESCUING SEVEN

PEOPLE FROM A BURNING BUILDING IN THE CITY OF CENTRAL FALLS

     WHEREAS, Police officers in the State of Rhode Island and across America work

diligently and courageously to serve, protect, and preserve the peace in their communities,

regardless of the perils or hazards they potentially face each and every day; and

     WHEREAS, It is eminently important to recognize and thank these brave men and

women in blue, especially when their heroic actions have possible life-threatening consequences

but result in a most triumphant outcome; and

     WHEREAS, In the early hours of Saturday, January 28th, while patrolling Earle Street in

the City of Central Falls, Officer Yomaira Rodriguez detected flames arising from a multi-level

home. She immediately reported the impending emergency and quickly received the assistance of

Sergeant Derrick Levasseur and Officer Bari Cameron; and

     WHEREAS, The three officers entered the building and promptly evacuated a sleeping

couple and their young child from the first floor apartment and continuing their search, found and

rescued the four slumbering adults from an apartment on the second floor of what had by then

become a burning inferno; and

     WHEREAS, In that moment of crisis, without hesitation, the rapid response and

subsequent actions of these three heroic officers resulted in the safe rescue of seven lives and

ultimately demonstrate their deep concern for the welfare of others; and

     WHEREAS, The laudable actions of these officers augment our security, trust, and belief

in our local Police Departments and they are eminently worthy of our recognition and praise;

now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby honors and thanks Central Falls Police Officer Yomaira Rodriguez, Sergeant Derrick

Levasseur, and Officer Bari Cameron for their courageous and heroic efforts in saving the lives of

seven people from a burning building. We furthermore extend our best wishes for their future

happiness, success, and good health; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Officer Yomaira Rodriguez, Sergeant Derrick

Levasseur, and Officer Bari Cameron.
