EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF KERRY ROCK CURRAN | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Kerry |
2 | Rock Curran, the devoted husband of Georgette Curran, for more than forty-five years, the |
3 | beloved father of Seth Curran, and a lifelong resident of the City of Woonsocket; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Kerry Curran, affectionately known as "The Rock", was the son of the late |
5 | James and Yvette Curran, and the brother of Maureen Morse, Nancy Landry, and the late Dr. |
6 | James P. Curran, II. His mischievous youth was spent "swimming at the YMCA, shooting rats at |
7 | the dump, drinking his father's fresh squeezed orange juice every morning, and avoiding all |
8 | manner of nun-related discipline at St. Charles Parish School"; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Upon graduation from Woonsocket High School, where he was a defensive |
10 | lineman on the football team, Mr. Curran earned his degree from Rhode Island College, and to |
11 | the good fortune of many a Woonsocket teenager, he began teaching at Woonsocket Junior High. |
12 | During the course of his thirty-two year career in education, he held myriad positions, including |
13 | working as "The Peace Man" and "resident fixer", and although the titles changed from time to |
14 | time, he was always totally dedicated toward the betterment of his students and was often heard |
15 | to say that his job was to help "square pegs who didn't fit into round holes"; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Mr. Curran's altruism also extended to his community and neighbors |
17 | through his association and volunteer work with the Special Olympics, Boy Scout Troop 1106, |
18 | and Camp Ker-Anna; and |
19 | WHEREAS, There is no doubt that Kerry Curran, a caring and patient gentleman, |
20 | provided generations of young people in Woonsocket with a far brighter future because of his |

1 | life's endeavors. He enriched the lives of all who knew him and he will be dearly missed; now, |
2 | therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
4 | hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Kerry Rock Curran; and be it further |
5 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
6 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Georgette Curran and Family. |
