S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MICHAEL J. MCATEE, ESQ.

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness and regret that this Senate has learned of the passing

2

of Michael J. McAtee Esq., a resident of the Town of Cumberland and a well-respected attorney;

3

and

4

     WHEREAS, Michael McAtee was the son of retired Superior Court Magistrate William

5

J. and Joyce A. McAtee, and the brother of Katie A. McAtee. He was a graduate of St. Raphael

6

Academy and received his Bachelor's degree from Providence College; and

7

     WHEREAS, Following in his father's footsteps, Mr. McAtee chose to pursue a career in

8

law, earning his Juris Doctor from Roger Williams School of Law. Upon graduation, he became a

9

member of the Rhode Island Bar and worked for the firm of Robinson & Clapham in Providence.

10

He subsequently opened his own firm; and

11

     WHEREAS, Mr. McAtee eventually became a staff attorney for AFSCME Council 94, a

12

position he felt was his true calling. He had also enjoyed working for the Pawtucket Red Sox

13

during the Ben Mondor and Mike Tamburro years; and

14

     WHEREAS, Active in the community as well as his profession, Mr. McAtee was a

15

member of the Cumberland Democratic Town Committee, the Massachusetts Bar Association

16

and the Pawtucket Bar Association; and

17

     WHEREAS, In addition to his parents and sister, Mr. McAtee is survived by his loving

18

aunts, uncles, cousins, and multitude of friends, and his beloved Golden Retriever, Charlie; and

19

     WHEREAS, Michael McAtee possessed a magnificent mind, and a fair and

20

magnanimous spirit. He had the love of his family and friends, and the admiration of his peers,

and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it

2

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

3

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the untimely passing of Michael J. McAtee Esq.; and

4

be it further

5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

6

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable William J. and Joyce A.

7

McAtee.
