S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE CHARLES F.

GOULD

     WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness and regret that this Senate has learned of the

2

passing of Charles F. Gould, a longtime resident of the City of Woonsocket, and a well-respected

3

former member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives; and

4

     WHEREAS, Born in Woonsocket Mr. Gould was the son of the late Robert and Dora

5

Gould. He was the husband of Lucille Gould, the father of Charlotte Mackillop, Paul Gould, and

6

the late John and Thomas Gould, and the brother of Robert Gould, Jr., and the late George,

7

Henry, James and Warren Gould; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mr. Gould was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and Providence

9

College. He enlisted in the United State Marine Corps, and served our country with honor in the

10

1st Division 5th Marine Reconnaissance Regiment as a Forward Observer during the Korean

11

War; and

12

     WHEREAS, Upon discharge, Mr. Gould was employed with the Woonsocket Police

13

Department and in 1960, became as an Attendance Officer with the Woonsocket School

14

Department; a position he held for the next 34 years until his retirement in 1994; and

15

     WHEREAS, During his tenure with the school department, Mr. Gould became involved

16

and was named to the Board of Directors of numerous civic and human service agencies. In

17

addition, he worked with myriad community groups including Family Resources, Road

18

Counseling, Thundermist Health Associates, Visiting Nurse Services, Woonsocket Shelter

19

Community Action Program, Woonsocket Senior Services, and Tri-Hab Health Associates. He

was also active and had served as President of Rotary International, and was honored to become a

2

"Paul Harris Fellow" of the rotary, and was named "Citizen of the Year" by the Kiwanis Club of

3

Woonsocket; and

4

     WHEREAS, Devoted to his faith, Mr. Gould was a parishioner at St. Joseph's Church in

5

Woonsocket, where he also served as President of the Parish council, Eucharistic Minister, lector,

6

coach and moderator of the church's C.Y.O.; and

7

     WHEREAS, From 1985 through 1992, the Honorable Charles Gould served as a State

8

Representative in the Rhode Island General Assembly. A truly valued member, he consistently

9

demonstrated an abiding dedication to serving the best interests of his Woonsocket constituents

10

while helping to lead the Ocean State toward a future of ever-expanding opportunities; now,

11

therefore be it

12

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

13

hereby expresses its deepest sympathies to the entire Gould Family on the passing of the

14

Honorable Charles F. Gould. He will forever be remembered by this Senate and the people of

15

Rhode Island for his commitment and concern for others; and be it further

16

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

17

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Lucille Gould and Family.
