S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE HONORABLE HANNA M. GALLO ON BEING NAMED THE

GRAND MARSHAL OF THE 58TH ANNUAL ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE IN WEST

WARWICK

     WHEREAS, The West Warwick St. Patrick's Day Parade is hosted annually by The

Pawtuxet Valley Chapter of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. This year marks the 58th anniversary

of this special parade and the Honorable Hanna M. Gallo has been chosen to be the Grand

Marshal; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Gallo is a distinguished member of the Rhode Island State Senate,

representing District 27, which includes parts of Cranston and West Warwick. She is well-known

and highly respected for her personal integrity and her expertise on education issues; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Gallo was first elected to the Rhode Island State Senate in 1998,

and has served as the Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Education since 2009. In that

leadership capacity, she played a fundamental role in securing comprehensive funding for full-

day kindergarten in 2015, and played a vital role in securing the passage of significant legislation

that improved the quality of education in Rhode Island including ensuring that first-rate

afterschool care is available for elementary and secondary students, to more accurately tracking

high school graduation rates in Rhode Island, and creating three new bachelor degree programs at

Rhode Island state universities and colleges, thereby ensuring that teachers receive the best

possible training ; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Gallo also co-chaired the Joint Legislative Committee to Establish a

Permanent Education Foundation Aid Formula in which she championed the establishment of a

fair, student-based funding formula for state aid to education. Thanks to her tireless work

landmark education formula legislation was signed into law and has been fully funded every year

since then; and

     WHEREAS, Being named Grand Marshal of the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in West

Warwick is an exceptional tribute bestowed upon those who have exhibited devotion and

excellence within the community. Senator Gallo, with her abundance of Irish charm and many

years of distinctive service, more than meets all the requirements expected of a Grand Marshal of

this august occasion; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates the Honorable Hanna Gallo on being named the Grand Marshal of the 58th

annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in West Warwick. In the words of a famous Irish saying "May

your neighbors respect you, troubles neglect you, the angels protect you, and Heaven accept you";

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Hanna M. Gallo.
