EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES TO THE TUCKER FAMILY ON THE PASSING OF | |

1 | WHEREAS, Woodrow W. Tucker passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017. He was |
2 | the beloved husband of Marjorie (Jones) Tucker for sixty-seven years; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. Tucker was born in South Kingstown, a son of the late Percy H. and |
4 | Annie R. Tucker. He was educated at South Kingstown High School and Northeastern School of |
5 | Law, and was admitted to the bar in 1950. He was the co-owner and President of South County |
6 | Real Estate Title Insurance Co. for many years before his retirement in 1992; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Tucker was a highly respected and esteemed member of the South |
8 | Kingstown community and served the town in numerous capacities, including as the 1st Probate |
9 | Judge, Town Moderator and Union Fire District Solicitor. He practiced as an attorney for fifty |
10 | years and served on the Executive Committee of the Rhode Island Bar Association. He also |
11 | served as President of the Washington County Bar Association, Pettaquamscut Credit Union, |
12 | Patrons Fire Insurance Company, and Phi Gamma Pi Fraternity, served as a Board member for |
13 | the Rhode Island State Grange Credit Union and Farmers and Traders Life Insurance, and was a |
14 | Paul Harris Fellow of the Wakefield Rotary Club; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Mr. Tucker loved everything about South County, especially its natural |
16 | beauty, abundant sea shore, and its agriculture. He had a special affinity for the Grange, where he |
17 | was fondly known as "Woody" and was regularly sought after for his legal expertise, grange |
18 | knowledge, and common sense advice. He was a past master of the Perryville Grange, the |
19 | Washington County Pomona and the Rhode Island State Grange. At the National level of the |

1 | Grange, he held the offices of Gatekeeper and Executive Committee member before being elected |
2 | High Priest of Demeter in 1981, a position he held for fourteen years; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Besides his wife Marjorie, Mr. Tucker leaves behind his son, Keith B. |
4 | Tucker, and his four daughters, Pamela L. Sawin and her husband, Craig, Kimberly J. Smith and |
5 | her husband, John, Christine D. Tucker and her husband, Brian McDonnell, and Suzanne E. |
6 | Tucker. He also leaves behind his six grandchildren, Jennifer Witham, Christopher Sawin, |
7 | Christina and Meghan Smith, and Hannah and Sarah McDonnell; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
9 | hereby expresses its condolences to the Tucker Family on the passing of Woodrow W. Tucker; |
10 | and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be hereby is authorized and directed to transmit |
12 | a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Marjorie Tucker and Family. |
