RELATING TO STATEWIDE VIRTUAL EDUCATION - SNOW DAYS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 16-22.1 of the General Laws entitled "The Statewide Virtual |
2 | Education Act [See Title 16 Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of Education Act]" is hereby |
3 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
4 | 16-22.1-5.1. Cancellation of school days due to weather or other events. |
5 | In addition to the regulations set forth in ยง16-22.1-5, the department of elementary and |
6 | secondary education and the commissioner shall develop an at home online learning system for |
7 | K-12 students for use by any local school district to minimize the number of school days to be |
8 | added to the end of the school year in compliance with the gross number of school days required |
9 | by law due to any cancellation caused by natural events such as weather or other events affecting |
10 | the state or particular to any local school district. |
11 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on July 1, 2017. |
