	RELATING TO LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS -- CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS'
	ARBITRATION

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Section 28-9.7-7 of the General Laws in Chapter 28-9.7 entitled
2	"Correctional Officers Arbitration" is hereby amended to read as follows:
3	28-9.7-7. Unresolved issues submitted to arbitration.
4	In the event that the bargaining agent and the state authorities are unable within thirty
5	(30) days from and including the date of their first meeting to reach an agreement on a contract,
6	any and all unresolved issues shall be submitted to arbitration. The parties may agree in writing to
7	extend the thirty (30) day period.
8	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

	BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

1	This act would allow the bargaining agent for the correctional officers and the state
2	authority to extend, by agreement in writing, the thirty (30) day period to reach an agreement on a
3	contract, before submitting unresolved issues to arbitration.
4	This act would take effect upon passage.
