CONGRATULATING THE TIVERTON GIRLS' CHEERLEADING TEAM ON WINNING | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Tiverton Boys' Basketball Team, led all season by the superb coaching |
2 | provided by Head Coach Dave Landoch, dominated their Division in the regular season on the |
3 | way to compiling a perfect 17 and 0 record; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Tiverton entered the Rhode Island Division III Tournament as the 1st seed |
5 | and, after receiving a bye in the preliminaries round, thrashed Central Falls in the Quarter-Finals |
6 | by the score of 75 to 40. In the Semi-Finals against Burrillville, the Tigers rode a tenacious |
7 | defense to victory, holding Burrillville to a miniscule 9 for 54 shooting performance, as Tiverton |
8 | earned a berth in the Championship game against Wheeler; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In the Championship game, Tiverton used a late first-half 10 to 1 run to |
10 | finish the half with a commanding 39 to 28 lead. In the second half the Tigers, led by the dynamic |
11 | play of Tyler Murray and Carson Hart, who scored 22 and 15 points respectively, closed out |
12 | Wheeler in dominating fashion as they opened up a 22 point lead on the way to a 17 point, 64 to |
13 | 47 victory; and |
14 | WHEREAS, The Tiverton Girls' Cheerleading Team overcame a slow start and a thin |
15 | roster that at one time was short of enough players to qualify for the State Tournament, and |
16 | repeated as State Champions thanks to some roster additions in November and a team that jelled |
17 | later in the season and became a team to be reckoned with in the championship tournament; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Cheerleading is a sport that requires a diverse array of skills and athletic |

1 | abilities to perfect the stunts necessary to win a championship. It requires that one excels at |
2 | gymnastics, dancing and jumping, a difficult skill-set to master. Thanks to Coach Susan |
3 | McDermott's deft roster management, and superb leadership and coaching skills, she was able to |
4 | mold a youthful and smaller roster into a confident and cohesive team that perfected its stunting |
5 | techniques just in time for the State Championship. The result was a delight to many, as Tiverton |
6 | performed flawlessly and once again vanquished the competition and repeated as champions of |
7 | the Small Division at the 2017 Rhode Island Cheerleading Small Division State Championship; |
8 | now, therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
10 | hereby congratulates the Tiverton Boys Basketball Team on winning the 2017 Rhode Island |
11 | Boys' Basketball Division III Tournament, and the Tiverton Girls' Cheerleading Team on winning |
12 | the 2017 Rhode Island Cheerleading Small Division State Championship; and be it further |
13 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mr. Dave Landoch, Head Basketball Coach, |
15 | Tiverton Basketball, and Ms. Susan McDermott, Head Coach, Tiverton Girls' Cheerleading |
16 | Team. |
