1 | WHEREAS, Amy Henrich, a native of Bristol, Rhode Island, is an outstanding athlete |
2 | who has been a member of the Special Olympics for twenty years. She has competed in a variety |
3 | of sports over the years including skiing, bocce, sailing, swimming and track & field; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for children |
5 | and adults with intellectual disabilities. They provide training and competitions for more than five |
6 | million athletes from more than 170 countries; and |
7 | WHEREAS, In 2017, Amy competed for the United States at the Special Olympics |
8 | World Winter Games in Austria against athletes from across the globe in the sport of alpine |
9 | skiing. She excelled on the worldwide stage, winning a Gold Medal thanks to her 1st place finish |
10 | in the Alpine Giant Slalom event. She also competed in the Alpine Intermediate Super G event |
11 | and earned a Ribbon for her 4th place finish; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Amy is a high school graduate who teaches first-grade religious education at |
13 | her church. She loves teaching and strives to help children to reach their full potential. She has |
14 | recently accepted a position as a substitute at Countryside Preschool and credits her parents and |
15 | the Special Olympics for much of her success. Thanks to the Special Olympics, Amy found it |
16 | easier to become comfortable meeting new people, has made many new friends, and has become |
17 | a much more confident person; now, therefore be it |
18 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
19 | hereby congratulates Amy Henrich for winning a Gold Medal in the Alpine Giant Slalom at the |

2 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
3 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Amy Henrich. |
