EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF PAULINE M. CARDIN | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Pauline |
2 | M. Cardin, best known as "Polly," on March 20, 2017. She was 99 years old, and a life-long |
3 | resident of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She was the wife of the late Alexander Cardin and Anthony |
4 | S. Valente; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Cardin was born on January 17, 1918, the daughter of the late Joseph |
6 | and Angela D'Angelo. She was employed at the Department of Employment Security for more |
7 | than twenty-five years until her retirement. Subsequently, she had been employed part-time at |
8 | Project Hope in Central Falls and Pawtucket, serving as a case manager until 2008; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Cardin was a woman of deep faith, committed to her church, and one |
10 | who strived tirelessly to make her community a better place in which to live. She was an |
11 | organizer of the Good Friday Walk and a participant for more than twenty-five years. She was |
12 | also the Parish Coordinator of the St Mary's Festival in Pawtucket, and was active in the Mother's |
13 | Club and the Legion of Mary. Additionally, she was a Girl Scout Leader and took great pleasure |
14 | in her work with them; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Cardin leaves behind her granddaughter Tonimarie Donnell LaRose, |
16 | her grandson, Paul Bruscini, and her great grandchildren, Jeffrey and Caitlyn LaRose. She is also |
17 | survived by her stepdaughter Katherine Devine, and her step- grandchildren, Meg Goldfaden, |
18 | Risa Cardin, and Alexander Cardin and many nieces and nephews. Pauline was the mother of the |
19 | late JoAnne Olson, and the sister of the late Vincent D'Angelo, Samuel D'Angelo, Charles |
20 | D'Angelo, Joseph D'Angelo, Jr., Frances DeMartino and Eleanor Grasso. She also leaves behind |

1 | many dear friends, including John Barry, Stella Carrera, and many others. Now, therefore be it |
2 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
3 | hereby expresses its condolences on the passing of Pauline M. "Polly" Cardin; and be it further |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
5 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Tonimarie Donnell LaRose and Paul Bruscini. |
