S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ALFRED A. RUSSO, SR.

     WHEREAS, Alfred A. Russo, Sr., was born in Johnston, Rhode Island, the son of the late

2

Vincent and Alvina Russo. Mr. Russo was the devoted husband of the late Shirley Russo; and

3

     WHEREAS, Mr. Russo was a hard-working family man who strived tirelessly to support

4

and protect his loved ones. He was the owner and President of Russo Brothers Construction,

5

where he was a heavy equipment operator and on a daily basis, exhibited a strong work ethic and

6

total dedication to his customers and their construction projects; and

7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Russo was a United States Military veteran who served our nation with

8

honor and valor during the Korean War. He saw combat from 1952 to 1954, and received the

9

Combat Infantry Badge. During this time of service to our nation, he met his lifelong friend, Jack

10

Newsham, and later his wife, Pat. Their families will forever be united as Mr. Russo will be laid

11

to rest at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery alongside his wife Shirley, and his best

12

friend, Jack; and

13

     WHEREAS, Mr. Russo was the loving father of Alfred A. Russo, Jr., and his wife,

14

Jennifer, and his late son, David V. Russo, and his wife, Lisa. He was also a doting grandfather to

15

his grandchildren Michael, Julia, Annisiah and Alexia. He took great pride and pleasure in

16

teaching his grandchildren about life and, equally important, the right way to water his cherished

17

garden and how to properly pick the vegetables; and

18

     WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Russo enjoyed playing golf and bocce. He was the

19

President of the Rhode Island Bocce League and Captain of team Russo Brothers for more than

20

forty years. He also enjoyed cooking food from his vegetable garden for family and friends. Mr.

Russo was an inspirational force in the lives of his family and friends and he will be sorely

2

missed by all who knew him; and

3

     WHEREAS, Mr. Russo also leaves behind his siblings Madelyn Travelyn, Ida Acciardo,

4

and Elizabeth Fleury. He was the brother of the late Vincent Russo, Mary Paiva, Florence

5

Centofante, and Ann Chirichella. He was also the devoted uncle to sixteen nieces and nephews;

6

now, therefore be it

7

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

8

hereby expresses its condolences on the passing of Alfred A. Russo, Sr.; and be it further

9

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

10

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The Honorable Alfred A. Russo, Jr., and

11

Family.
