EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF WILLIAM BENSON, JR.

     

     Introduced By: Senators Crowley, Satchell, Algiere, Lombardi, and Sheehan

     WHEREAS, William "Bill" Benson, Jr., passed away on April 4th, 2017. He was the

2

husband of Dolores C. Benson for almost fifty years; and

3

     WHEREAS, Mr. Benson was born in Central Falls, a son of the late William Benson, Sr.,

4

and Edith Benson. He worked as an Animal Control Officer for the City of Central Falls, and

5

later worked for many years as an employee of the Dunbar Motor Company; and

6

     WHEREAS, For many years, Mr. Benson served his constituents and the citizens of

7

Central Falls with integrity and tireless devotion as a Councilman in the Ward 5 District and later

8

as the City Council President for nine years. He also served our nation with honor and valor as a

9

combat medic during the Vietnam War; and Mr. Benson was a loving husband, a devoted father,

10

and a great friend to many and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him; and

11

     WHEREAS, In addition to his wife Dolores, Mr. Benson leaves behind his children,

12

Samantha A. Branco, and her husband, Nuno, Rhoda N. Benson and her fiancé, Homer Lafond

13

III, and William Benson. He is also survived by his grandson, Steven J. Benson, a granddaughter,

14

Sarah J. Branco, a brother, Thomas Benson, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of

15

the late Alan Benson; and

16

     WHEREAS, Mr. Benson was a loving husband, a devoted father and a great friend to

17

many. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him; and

18

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

19

hereby expresses its condolences on the passing of William Benson, Jr.; and be it further

20

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Dolores C. Benson and Family.
