RELATING TO ELECTIONS - CONDUCT OF ELECTION AND VOTING EQUIPMENT

AND SUPPLIES

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 17-19-4 of the General Laws in Chapter 17-19 entitled "Conduct of

Election and Voting Equipment, and Supplies" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     17-19-4. Voting booths and optical scan precinct count units -- Number to be

4

furnished.

     (a) For each voting district and for each town not divided into voting districts, an optical

6

scan at least one precinct count unit shall be prepared and delivered by the state board or its

7

designee.

     (b) At each voting place, both in cities and in towns, one voting booth shall be furnished

9

for every one hundred seventy-five (175) qualified electors, whose names are upon the voting list

10

used at the voting place and entitled to use the machines, as certified to the state board based on

11

the voting list certified as a result of the final canvass the number of precinct count units and

12

voting booths furnished at each voting place shall be established in accordance with rules and

13

regulations which shall be promulgated by the state board of elections.

     (c) In making the calculation required by this section, voters whose names are on the

15

inactive list of voters shall not be included.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would require at least one precinct count unit be prepared and delivered to each

town not divided into voting districts and requires the board of elections to promulgate rules and

3

regulations establishing the number of precinct count units and voting booths to be used at each

4

voting place.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
