EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF CHARLES A. DEBARE | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Charles |
2 | A. DeBare on March 28, 2017. He was 92 years old, and a life-long resident of New York City, |
3 | New York. He was the beloved husband of Mary A. DeBare for nearly 30 years; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeBare was born on May 15, 1924, the son of the late Lillie (Ruben) |
5 | and Nat J. DeBare; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeBare attended Cornell University at the age of 16, where he received |
7 | an undergraduate degree and a Juris Doctor, and passed the New York State Bar in 1949; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeBare served our nation with honor and distinction in the United |
9 | States Army as a translator and decoder during World War II; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeBare was employed as a staff attorney for NBC from 1955-1959, and |
11 | then had a distinguished career at the American Broadcasting Company, moving from his |
12 | position as the Director of Legal and Business Affairs to becoming the President of ABC's owned |
13 | AM & FM Radio Division until he retired in 1986; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeBare served on the Board of Directors and as the Vice President of |
15 | Camp Oakhurst, an organization dedicated to providing services for children with developmental |
16 | disabilities. He also served as a trustee for the Birch Wathen School in New York City; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeBare was a wicked tennis player, champion collegiate squash player, |
18 | Scrabble master, excellent bridge partner (most of the time), superb toast maker, fabulous |
19 | storyteller, lover of hot dogs, and super fan of the University of Connecticut Women's basketball |
20 | team; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Mr. DeBare leaves behind his children and their partners/spouses: Deborah |
2 | DeBare and Cindi Emery of North Kingstown Rhode Island, Ilana DeBare and Sam Schuchat and |
3 | Robert DeBare and Esther Rogers; his stepchildren and their spouses: Benjamin and Nancy Arno; |
4 | Andy and Janis Arno; Elizabeth and Stan Arno; and ten grandchildren: Rebecca Schuchat, Danny |
5 | DeBare, Josh DeBare, Mariana DeBare, Benjamin Arno, James Arno, Jesse Arno, Matty Arno, |
6 | George Arno and Melissa Arno; and his sister Marcia Solomon, many loved nieces and nephews, |
7 | and many dear friends; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
9 | hereby expresses its condolences on the passing of Charles A. DeBare; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mary DeBare and Deborah DeBare. |
