S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING MARCIA GREEN ON BEING INDUCTED INTO THE RHODE

ISLAND PRESS ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME AND WISHING HER A MOST

FULFILLING RETIREMENT

     WHEREAS, In May of 1973, Marcia Holmes Green graduated from the University of

Rhode Island with a degree in Journalism, beginning what would become a long and

distinguished career informing and educating the people of Rhode Island in various journalistic

capacities; and

     WHEREAS, Launching her career with The Good Five Cent Cigar during her college

years, Ms. Green went on to work at The Pawtucket Times upon graduation. She rose to the

position of city editor at The Times before joining the staff at The Valley Breeze in 1996; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Green's responsibilities at The Valley Breeze have included juggling

"five lively newspapers", as well as writing, managing staff, and mentoring the new reporters;

and

     WHEREAS, Throughout her years in journalism, Ms. Green has consistently

demonstrated an abiding passion for knowledge, insight, and mesmerizing organization, and her

"unflinching commitment to honest journalism" earned her the illustrious honor of being inducted

into the Rhode Island Press Association Hall of Fame; and

     WHEREAS, Turning the page on a new chapter of her life, Ms. Green is retiring in May

of 2017, after more than forty years in journalism; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates Marcia Green on being inducted into the Rhode Island Press Association

Hall of Fame and on her retirement from The Valley Breeze. We moreover thank her on behalf of

all Rhode Islanders for her eloquent and informative journalism and wish her the very best health

and continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Marcia Holmes Green.
