QUALITY ASSURANCE ACT | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 23-17.20 of the General Laws entitled "Health Care Facilities |
2 | Staffing" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 23-17.20-7. Use of non-Rhode Island licensed nurses. |
4 | (a) Health care facilities shall report to the department of health the name and state of |
5 | licensure of any registered nurse performing work duties at the facility who is not licensed in |
6 | Rhode Island. This information shall be reported to the department within fourteen (14) business |
7 | days from when the registered nurse not licensed in Rhode Island begins performing work duties |
8 | at the health care facility. Health care facilities shall also report to the department the name and |
9 | state of licensure of registered nurses not licensed in Rhode Island, within fourteen (14) business |
10 | days of when those nurses no longer perform work duties at the facility. The department shall |
11 | make the above-prescribed information, with the exception of the names of the nurses, available |
12 | to the public. |
13 | (b) The department of health shall promulgate regulations to further define the terms, |
14 | conditions, and requirements of this section. |
15 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on January 1, 2018. |
