RELATING TO INSURANCE - CASUALTY INSURANCE GENERALLY | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 27-8 of the General Laws entitled "Casualty Insurance Generally" |
2 | is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 27-8-1.1. Vacant property. |
4 | (a) No residential property shall be declared vacant under any policy of insurance after a |
5 | period of thirty (30) or less days; provided, that the owner of the residential property is in the |
6 | process of renovation and/or rehabilitation of the premises pursuant to the issuance of the |
7 | appropriate building permits by the municipality wherein the property is located. |
8 | (b) The process of renovation and/or rehabilitation shall commence upon the date when |
9 | the application for the issuance of a building permit is filed and shall cease upon the date when |
10 | the renovation and/or rehabilitation is completed and a certificate of occupancy has been |
11 | obtained. |
12 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

1 | This act would exempt residential property from the definition of vacant property |
2 | provided the owner of the property is in the process of renovation and/or rehabilitation pursuant |
3 | to building permits issued by the local municipality from the date of application for the permits to |
4 | the date of completion of the renovation and/or rehabilitation and the issuance of a certificate of |
5 | occupancy. |
6 | This act would take effect upon passage. |
