S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE BARRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL BOYS ICE HOCKEY HIGH

SCHOOL TEAM ON WINNING THE 2017 RHODE ISLAND BOYS DIVISION II ICE

HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP

     WHEREAS, The Barrington Boys 2016-2017 Ice Hockey Team compiled a sterling 14-4

2

regular season record in the South Division, outscoring the opposition 85 to 33, and finishing in a

3

tie for first place in the division; and

4

     WHEREAS, The Barrington Eagles faced PCD/St. Rays/Wheeler Co-Op in the first

5

round of the playoffs, dispatching them 2-0 in a hard fought series with Barrington winning the

6

first game in a 1-0 shutout, and clinching the series in the second game by the score of 5-4; and

7

     WHEREAS, In the second round, Barrington faced the Ponaganset Chieftains, winners of

8

the North Division. In a see-saw series, the Eagles prevailed 2 games to 1, winning the first game

9

easily by the score of 5-2. After dropping the second game, Barrington responded in the series

10

finale, outplaying their opponents and winning decisively 4-0; and

11

     WHEREAS, In the Championship finals, Barrington faced-off against their arch rivals,

12

Rogers/Middletown/Rocky Hill/Co-op, in a best of three series. The first two games were split,

13

with Barrington winning the first game by the score of 5 to 2, and dropping the second game by

14

the score of 2-0. In the series finale, Barrington thoroughly dominated the early portion of the

15

game, storming out to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals scored by Dominic Robidoux, Luke Rudman,

16

and Michael Grieve. Eagles Goaltender Josh Cabral preserved the lead, making numerous clutch

17

saves later in the game to secure the State Title with a 3-2 victory. For his outstanding play, Josh

18

was named the MVP of the game; and

19

     WHEREAS, Winning a State Championship in a team sport is a difficult achievement,

one requiring that every player on the team give his all and put team needs ahead of personal

2

goals at all times. The Barrington Eagles Boys Ice Hockey Team had those attributes in

3

abundance, as they were led all season by the outstanding leadership provided by Captains

4

Timothy J. Hall, and Michael Grieve, along with the important contributions provided by Joshua

5

J. Cabral, Andrew V. Harris, Robert H. Vanier, John T. Lombardi, Charles G. Ames, Luke S.

6

LaMontagne, Ian B. Coyne, Drew W. Sirmalis, Eytan H. Goldstein, Nicholas A. Bernardo, Grady

7

D. O’Connor, Joshua K. Roy, Kyle R. Shuman, Dominic J. Robidoux, Jacob A. Andreozzi, Luke

8

A. Rudman, Jonathan M. Fay, Benjamin R. Freiman, Matthew Bates, Brendan R. Ridlon, Brett

9

M. Turgeon, and Stephen K. Amaral. The Eagles also benefited all season from the excellent

10

coaching that was provided by Head Coach Kevin Croke, Assistant Coach Joseph Sturm, and

11

Volunteer Coaches Nick Marra and Tod Sirmalis; now, therefore be it

12

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

13

hereby congratulates the Barrington Boys Ice Hockey Team on winning the 2017 Rhode Island

14

Boys Division II Ice Hockey Championship; and be it further

15

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

16

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Head Coach Kevin Croke and Principal Joseph

17

Hurley.
