S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE COVENTRY HIGH SCHOOL ENVIROTHON TEAM MEMBERS

AND THEIR ADVISORS ON WINNING THE 2017 RHODE ISLAND ENVIROTHON

COMPETITION

     WHEREAS, As our young people prepare to compete in the global market, competitions

and the skills inherent in the necessary preparation for these events have become evermore

popular and a tremendous opportunity for their academic development; and

     WHEREAS, For the second year in a row, Coventry High School, under the guidance of

advisors, Peter Stetson, who has been with the team since 2001, and co-advisor Kritoff Foreman,

once again produced a winning team at the 2017 Rhode Island Envirothon Competition; and

     WHEREAS, The Envirothon Competition is an academic and applied competition

involving Aquatics, Forestry, Soils and Wildlife, with this year's issue focusing on Agricultural

Soils and Water Conservation Stewardship; and

     WHEREAS, Competing against twelve other teams, Coventry High School team

members Emily Quaresma, Kelly Bryant, Jennifer Brown, Allegra Richards, and Mariah Rietzel

won first place with their oral presentation, as well as Soils and Wildlife, second place in Forestry

and Aquatics, and third place in the environmental issue test; and

     WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize the triumphs of our youth and to

celebrate the accomplishments of our future leaders. Members of Coventry High School

Envirothon team are remarkable young women who exemplify everything that young people can

achieve and they are truly deserving of our recognition and praise; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates and applauds the Coventry High School Envirothon team for their first place

finish at the RI Envirothon Competition and wish them continued success at the Nationals and in

all their future endeavors; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Peter Stetson.
