HONORING PETER STETSON ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MORE THAN 40 YEARS | |
OF DEDICATED SERVICE EDUCATING THE YOUNG PEOPLE AT COVENTRY HIGH | |

1 | WHEREAS, To the very good fortune of many a Coventry High School student, Peter |
2 | Stetson began his dedicated career in the field of education four decades ago on September 27th of |
3 | 1977; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. Stetson is a highly creative Science teacher at Coventry High School, |
5 | whose can-do attitude combined with dynamic teaching methods, relevant subject matter, and |
6 | remarkable apparel eccentricities have made him a stand-out teacher and have played a vital role |
7 | in the educational experience for many young people in the Town of Coventry; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Notably dedicated to his students and education, Mr. Stetson was named the |
9 | 2007 Southern Rhode Island Conservation Teacher of the Year, and has been recognized for his |
10 | volunteerism at Yawgoog Scout Preservation and for his excellent attendance during several |
11 | school years as well as perfect attendance during the 2010/2011 school year; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Spending countless hours assisting students in afterschool activities, Mr. |
13 | Stetson runs the Envirothon Club, presented at a Professional Development Day, helped organize |
14 | the 7th annual HUNT at the school, and worked with students on the 2009/2010 school Service |
15 | Learning project; and |
16 | WHEREAS, One of the more extraordinary projects that Mr. Stetson's students have been |
17 | able to study is the yearly rearing of sixty or so trout fingerlings, donated from a fish hatchery in |
18 | North Kingstown and raised in an enormous refrigerated and filtrated tank at the school; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Peter Stetson has always gone above and beyond, and his accomplishments |

1 | and the positive impact he has had on lives of myriad young people in Coventry and this state will |
2 | be felt for generations; now, therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
4 | hereby honors and commends Peter Stetson on his retirement after more than 40 outstanding |
5 | years of service to thousands of students in the Town of Coventry. We thank him for all his |
6 | efforts, and wish him good health, fulfillment and much success in all his future endeavors; and |
7 | be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
9 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Peter Stetson. |
