It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 31-15-4 of the General Laws in Chapter 31-15 entitled "Passing, |
2 | Use of Lanes, and Rules of the Road" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
3 | 31-15-4. Overtaking on left. |
4 | The following rules shall govern the overtaking and passing of vehicles proceeding in the |
5 | same direction, subject to those limitations, exceptions, and special rules stated in this chapter: |
6 | (1) The driver of a vehicle overtaking another vehicle proceeding in the same direction |
7 | shall give a timely, audible visible signal and shall pass to the left at a safe distance and shall not |
8 | again drive to the right side of the roadway until safely clear of the overtaken vehicle. |
9 | (2) Except when overtaking and passing on the right is permitted, the driver of an |
10 | overtaken vehicle shall give way to the right in favor of the overtaking vehicle on audible visible |
11 | signal and shall not increase the speed of his or her vehicle until completely passed by the |
12 | overtaking vehicle. |
13 | (3) Violations of this section are subject to fines enumerated in ยง 31-41.1-4. |
14 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
