A N   A C T

RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES - REGISTRATION OF VEHICLES

     Introduced By: Representatives Vella-Wilkinson, Phillips, Casimiro, Ackerman, and
Lombardi

     Date Introduced: January 24, 2018

     Referred To: House Corporations

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 31-3 of the General Laws entitled "Registration of Vehicles" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     31-3-41.1. Prorated reimbursement for unexpired returned registration.

     Whenever a person, voluntarily or under any of the provisions of title 31 ("motor and

other vehicles") surrenders, returns, or delivers to any person in the division of motor vehicles, an

unexpired registration card and motor vehicle plates, the division of motor vehicles shall

reimburse, on a prorated basis, the registration fee for the unexpired period of the registration.

Payment by the division of motor vehicles to the registered owner of the vehicle for the

surrendered registration shall be sent within ninety (90) day of the surrender of the registration.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
