RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES - SPECIAL CLASS OF MOTOR

VEHICLE REGISTRATION PLATES

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 31-3 of the General Laws entitled "Registration of Vehicles" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     31-3-117. Minimum prepaid special motor vehicle registration plate orders.

     (a) As to any special motor vehicle registration plates which have been authorized

5

pursuant to this chapter but which have not been issued or printed as of (effective date of this act)

6

because the minimum number of prepaid orders for the plates has not been reached, the minimum

7

number of plates which must be prepaid and ordered prior to the plates being made and issued

8

shall be deemed to be six hundred (600) sets of plates per plate type. If the minimum number of

9

prepaid plates provided pursuant to any other section of this chapter is a higher number, that

10

number shall be deemed reduced to six hundred (600) sets of plates per plate type.

     (b) As to any special plates which are authorized pursuant to this chapter after (effective

12

date of this act), the minimum number of plates which must be prepaid and ordered prior to the

13

plates being made and issued shall be six hundred (600) sets of plates per plate type.

14

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

VEHICLE REGISTRATION PLATES

     This act would provide that the minimum number of prepaid orders for a special motor

2

vehicle registration plate type would be six hundred (600) sets of plates per plate type. This

3

minimum number would apply to plates which have already been authorized by statute but not

4

yet printed because the minimum number has not been reached, as well as plates authorized after

5

the effective date of this act.

6

     This act would take effect upon passage.
