A N   A C T

RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- REGISTRATION OF VEHICLES

     Introduced By: Representatives Filippi, Edwards, Quattrocchi, Keable, and Price

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 31-3 of the General Laws entitled "Registration of Vehicles" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     31-3-6.4. Authority to collect unpaid motor vehicle taxes.

     (a) In furtherance of the provisions of this chapter, the administrator of the division of

motor vehicles is authorized to collect any outstanding excise tax assessed pursuant to the

provisions of chapter 34 of title 44 remaining unpaid to any city, town or fire district.

     (b) The administrator shall collect any outstanding excise tax at the time of registration of

a motor vehicle pursuant to this chapter, and shall remit such amount to the applicable city, town

or fire district within ninety (90) days of registration.

     (b) The administrator may adopt any further regulations that they may deem necessary to

implement this section.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would authorize the division of motor vehicles to collect outstanding excise

taxes at the time of registration of a motor vehicle, and remit such amounts to the applicable city,

town or fire district.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
