RELATING TO EDUCATION -- SCHOOL COMMITTEES AND SUPERINTENDENTS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 16-2-10 of the General Laws in Chapter 16-2 entitled "School |
2 | Committees and Superintendents [See Title 16 Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of |
3 | Education Act]" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
4 | 16-2-10. Certification of superintendents Certification of superintendents and |
5 | administrators. |
6 | (a) No person shall be employed as superintendent of schools, principal, vice principal, |
7 | director of special education or any other administrator within the school system in any city or |
8 | town unless the person holds a certificate of qualification issued by or under the authority of the |
9 | state board of regents education and/or the council for elementary and secondary education. |
10 | (b) Under no circumstances shall the requirement that the person holding a certificate of a |
11 | qualification be waived by the school committee, the state board of education and/or the council |
12 | for elementary and secondary education. |
13 | SECTION 2. Chapter 16-77 of the General Laws entitled "Establishment of Charter |
14 | Public Schools [See Title 16 Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of Education Act]" is hereby |
15 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
16 | 16-77-3.2. Certification of administrators. |
17 | (a) No person shall be employed as superintendent, head of school, principal, vice |
18 | principal or any other administrator of a charter public school unless the person holds a certificate |
19 | of qualification issued by or under the authority of the state board of education and/or the council |

1 | for elementary and secondary education. |
2 | (b) Under no circumstances shall the requirement set forth in subsection (a) of this |
3 | section be waived by any charter public school, the state board of education and/or the council for |
4 | elementary and secondary education. |
5 | SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

3 | qualification and would prohibit the granting of any waivers. |
