1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Kwong- |
2 | Wen Fung on February 3, 2018, at The Cedars in Cranston, Rhode Island. He was the devoted |
3 | husband of Tan Ping Fung for the past 47 years; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Kwong-Wen Fung was born in Canton, China, and grew up in the Chinese |
5 | Province of Guangdong. He was the son of the late Yung and Ju Jie Fung. He married Tan Ping |
6 | in Hong Kong, and in 1969, while Mrs. Fung was pregnant with their son Allan, they came to the |
7 | United States to seek out a better life for the family they were about to start. They opened Kong |
8 | Wen restaurant in Cranston in 1970, originally on Cranston Street and later in the former |
9 | Marcello’s on Gansett Ave, and it was a great success. Mr. Fung was the chef and for thirty-five |
10 | years he took great pride in cooking delectable Chinese food for his many customers. Mr. Fung’s |
11 | life was the very embodiment of the American dream. Like many Americans, Mr. Fung came to |
12 | this great country seeking a better life for himself and his family and through hard work and |
13 | immense love for his wife, children, family, and the nation he adopted, he certainly succeeded |
14 | and enriched the lives of all those who knew and loved him; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Besides his wife Tan Ping Fung, Kwong-Wen Fung leaves behind his |
16 | children, the Honorable Allan Fung, Mayor of Cranston, and his wife, Barbara Ann Fenton, Anna |
17 | Fung-Panciera, and her husband Richard Panciera, and Arlene Fung. He also leaves behind his |
18 | many friends at The Cedars; and be it further |
19 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |

1 | Providence Plantations hereby expresses its condolences to the Fung Family on the passing of |
2 | Kwong-Wen Fung; and be it further |
3 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
4 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Tan Ping Fung, the Honorable Allan Fung, |
5 | Anna Fung-Panciera and Arlene Fung. |
