RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES - GENERAL POWERS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 45-2 of the General Laws entitled "General Powers" is hereby |
2 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 45-2-67. Payment of police training. |
4 | Any law enforcement agency within the state of Rhode Island that hires a law |
5 | enforcement officer working for another municipality within the state of Rhode Island shall, upon |
6 | hiring such law enforcement officer, reimburse the municipality from which it hired the officer |
7 | for all costs and expenses and expenses associated with the training and education, including |
8 | costs of uniforms, weapons and other incidental expenses, of said officer provided that said costs |
9 | of training and education were incurred within five (5) years of the date of hire. |
10 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

1 | This act would require any police department that hires an officer employed by another |
2 | police department within the state of Rhode Island to reimburse the municipality for which the |
3 | officer first worked, for all costs and expenses associated with the officer's training and education |
4 | provided that such costs were incurred within five years of the hiring. |
5 | This act would take effect upon passage. |
