RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES - DISORDERLY CONDUCT | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 11-11-3 of the General Laws in Chapter 11-11 entitled "Disorderly |
2 | Conduct" is hereby repealed. |
3 | 11-11-3. Carrying on business or entertainment in vicinity of religious meeting. |
4 | Whenever any religious society shall hold any camp, tent, grove or other out-door |
5 | meeting, or the Society of General Six-principle Baptists of Rhode Island and Massachusetts shall |
6 | hold their annual "general meeting," for any purpose connected with the object for which the |
7 | religious society was organized, no person, without the consent of the religious society or of its |
8 | proper officers, shall keep in any shop, tent, booth, wagon or carriage or other place, for sale, or |
9 | expose for sale any spirituous or intoxicating liquors or other drinks or food or merchandise of |
10 | any kind, or hawk or peddle any liquors or merchandise mentioned in this section within one mile |
11 | of the place of the meeting, nor shall any person engage in gaming, horse racing, or exhibit or |
12 | offer to exhibit any show or play within the like distance of one mile of a meeting; and every |
13 | person violating any provision of this section shall be fined not exceeding twenty dollars ($20.00) |
14 | nor less than five dollars ($5.00) or be imprisoned not exceeding thirty (30) days; provided, that |
15 | nothing contained in this section shall be so construed as to prevent innkeepers, grocers, or other |
16 | persons from pursuing their ordinary business at their usual place of doing business, nor to |
17 | prevent any person from selling victuals in his or her usual place of abode. |
