CREATING A SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION TO STUDY UNLAWFUL SEXUAL | |
HARASSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE | |

1 | RESOLVED, That a special legislative commission be and the same is hereby created |
2 | consisting of eleven (11) members: five (5) of whom shall be members of the House of |
3 | Representatives, of whom one shall be an active member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, |
4 | and not more than four (4) of whom shall be from the same political party, to be appointed by the |
5 | Speaker of the House; one of whom shall be the Attorney General, or designee; one of whom |
6 | shall be the executive director for the Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights, or designee; |
7 | one of whom shall be the associate director of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Opportunity of |
8 | the Department of Administration, or designee; one of whom shall be the president of the Rhode |
9 | Island Police Chiefs’ Association, or designee; one of whom shall be a member of the LGBTQ |
10 | community, to be appointed by the Speaker of the House; and one of whom shall be a member of |
11 | the Rhode Island business community with expertise in human resources practices, to be |
12 | appointed by the Speaker of the House. |
13 | The purpose of said commission shall be to undergo a study of unlawful sexual |
14 | harassment in the workplace, including a review of existing protections and procedures available |
15 | under current Rhode Island and federal law. |
16 | Forthwith upon the passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet |
17 | at the call of the Speaker of the House to organize and select a chairperson; and a vice |
18 | chairperson who shall be a representative and an active member of the Rhode Island Bar |
19 | Association. |

1 | Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in a like manner as the original appointment. |
2 | The members of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services, |
3 | All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and information, |
4 | documentary and otherwise, to said commission and its agents as is deemed necessary or |
5 | desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution. |
6 | The Speaker of the House is hereby authorized and directed to provide suitable quarters |
7 | for said commission; and be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the |
9 | House of Representatives no later than May 17, 2018, and said commission shall expire on June |
10 | 7, 2018. |
