RELATING TO LABOR AND LABOR RELATIONS -- MINIMUM WAGES

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Shanley, Nardolillo, Blazejewski, Barros, and Kazarian

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 28-12 of the General Laws entitled "Minimum Wages" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     28-12-3.3. Minimum wages for employees of developmental disabilities

4

organizations.

     Commencing July 1, 2018, every covered employer providing services to five (5) or more

6

persons with developmental disabilities, that are reimbursed for such services by the state, shall

7

pay each of their employees, no less than thirteen dollars and eighteen cents ($13.18) per hour.

Commencing July 1, 2019, every covered employer providing services to five (5) or more persons

9

with developmental disabilities, that are reimbursed for such services by the state, shall pay of

10

their employees, no less than fourteen dollars and nine cents ($14.09) per hour. Commencing July

11

1, 2020, every covered employer providing services to five (5) or more persons with

12

developmental disabilities, that are reimbursed for such services by the state, shall pay of their

13

employees, no less than fifteen dollars ($15.00) per hour. For the purposes of this section,

14

covered employers are those developmental disability organizations licensed to provide services

15

pursuant to ยง 40.1-24-3.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would gradually increase the minimum hourly wage, for employees of covered

2

employers who provide services to five (5) or more persons with developmental disabilities and

3

are reimbursed by the state, from thirteen dollars and eighteen cents ($13.18) to fifteen dollars

4

($15.00) per hour.

5

     This act would take effect upon passage.
