RECOGNIZING AND HONORING CHARLESTOWN POLICE CHIEF JEFFREY ALLEN ON | |
THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY-TWO YEARS OF DEDICATED | |
AND DEVOTED PUBLIC SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH KINGSTOWN, | |
CHARLESTOWN, AND THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Charlestown Police Chief Jeffrey Allen began his distinguished police |
2 | career at the age of twenty-four when he joined the South Kingstown Police Department in 1986, |
3 | after graduating from Salve Regina University. He served the South Kingstown Police |
4 | Department with distinction for twenty-six years working a wide range of criminal cases |
5 | including homicide and major drug cases, and thanks to his tireless work ethic, strong leadership |
6 | skills and unshakeable integrity, Chief Allen rose through the ranks, serving five years as a |
7 | Patrolman, nearly a decade as a Detective, and four years as a Sergeant before eventually rising to |
8 | the rank of Captain and serving as a Commander for seven years, where he oversaw the South |
9 | Kingstown Police Department’s patrol operations; and |
10 | WHEREAS, In September of 2012, Chief Allen was the unanimous selection of a three- |
11 | chief committee to be the next Police Chief of the Town of Charlestown. He was chosen over |
12 | more than fifty other applicants. Under Chief Allen’s s guidance and leadership, the Charlestown |
13 | Police Department went through a rigorous three-year accreditation process beginning in 2014 |
14 | that resulted in full accreditation from the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission last |
15 | Spring; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Another focal point of Chief Allen’s tenure was his strong desire to |
17 | establish a better working relationship between the Charlestown Police Department and the |
18 | Narragansett Tribal Police. Thanks in large part to the hard work put in by Chief Allen and his |

1 | ability to work and communicate well with others, today the Charlestown Police Department has |
2 | the best relationship it has had in many years with the Narragansett Tribal Police; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Chief Allen is a man of good character, impeccable integrity, and eminent |
4 | fairness. His contributions to the Charlestown Police Department and the Town of Charlestown |
5 | are immense and he will be sorely missed by those with whom he has served, by local elected |
6 | officials, and by the citizens he served so well; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
8 | Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and thanks Charlestown Police Chief Jeffrey Allen on |
9 | his retirement after thirty-two years of exemplary public safety service to the citizens of South |
10 | Kingstown, Charlestown, and Rhode Island; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Charlestown Police Chief Jeffrey Allen. |
