RECOGNIZING AND THANKING MATTHEW T. JERZYK FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE | |
PEOPLE AND STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, The extraordinary commitment of individuals who share their time, talents |
2 | and knowledge is one of the most valued assets of the General Assembly. Whether it is in the |
3 | chamber or in the various offices that support the legislative process, dedication and mental |
4 | acumen are essential components in the sound development of this state; and |
5 | WHEREAS, In 1999, Matt Jerzyk graduated magna cum laude from Brown University, |
6 | and in 2008, received his Juris Doctorate from Roger Williams University School of Law, where |
7 | he had started the law school's first chapter of the American Constitution Society and received an |
8 | award as the best student organization president of the year from the student bar association. |
9 | Following law school, he was admitted to practice law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Matt worked as a law clerk at Motley Rice LLC, and as an attorney with a |
11 | practice in medical malpractice, catastrophic injury, products liability and workers' rights at |
12 | DeLuca and Weizenbaum, Ltd., in Providence, and as a criminal justice consultant, where he |
13 | advised the Governor's Commission on Race, Police and Community Relations; and |
14 | WHEREAS, In addition, Matt created the award-winning RIFuture.org political blog in |
15 | 2005, worked as a communications and government relations organizer for District 1199 of the |
16 | Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and has organized and directed numerous |
17 | successful state political campaigns; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Matt expanded his career, serving the City of Providence in myriad |
19 | capacities including, Director of Government Relations and Senior Counsel to the Mayor, and as |

1 | Deputy City Solicitor for three years; and |
2 | WHEREAS, On January 6, 2014, Matt was appointed City Solicitor in Central Falls, and |
3 | in February of 2014, to the very good fortune of the Rhode Island General Assembly, he was |
4 | named legal counsel for the House Small Business Committee and the House Labor Committee, |
5 | and subsequently appointed Deputy Legal Counsel to the Speaker of the House and, thereafter, |
6 | Legal Counsel to the House Majority Leader; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Matthew Jerzyk was born on March 27, 1977, and resides with his wife, |
8 | Suzanne Da Silva, and their four children, Diego, Colin, Colby and Chloe, in Cranston, Rhode |
9 | Island. His professional memberships include the Rhode Island Bar Association, the |
10 | Massachusetts Bar Association, the American Constitution Society and the American Association |
11 | for Justice; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Matthew Jerzyk has been an essential asset to the cities and legislators he |
13 | has so capably served, from small projects to large and complex pieces of legislation, and will |
14 | undoubtedly continue to accumulate accomplishments at a vigorous pace as he moves on to the |
15 | next session of his life; now, therefore be it |
16 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
17 | Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and thanks Matt Jerzyk for his exemplary service to the |
18 | people and State of Rhode Island. We moreover wish him good health, and continued success in |
19 | all his future endeavors; and be it further |
20 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
21 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Matthew Jerzyk. |
