It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 16-22 of the General Laws entitled "Curriculum [See Title 16 |
2 | Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of Education Act]" is hereby amended by adding thereto |
3 | the following section: |
4 | 16-22-29. The STEM Act. |
5 | (a) The legislature finds that the study of science, technology, engineering and |
6 | mathematics (STEM) is a priority in today's current technologically-advancing society, and |
7 | further finds that there are educational institutions that are not adequately funded to provide the |
8 | necessary training for STEM education. |
9 | (b) Every public secondary school teaching course in science, technology, engineering |
10 | and math shall provide operating science laboratories which shall include, but not be limited to, |
11 | working science lab equipment, computers, fume hoods, water, gas, Bunsen burners and other |
12 | equipment necessary for students to further their STEM education. |
13 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
