CONGRATULATING MICHAEL PALIOTTA ON BEING NAMED POLICE CHIEF OF | |
CHARLESTOWN, RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Michael Paliotta, husband of Heather Paliotta, father of four daughters, and |
2 | grandfather of three granddaughters, is a 1990 graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a |
3 | Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management. He joined the Charlestown Police Department |
4 | in 1992 as a Reserve Officer and was hired full-time in 1993. He completed his training at the |
5 | Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy where he earned the rank of class valedictorian, and |
6 | served with distinction as a Patrol Officer until 2001, when he was promoted to the rank of |
7 | Sergeant. He continued to attend school while serving as a police officer and attained a Master's |
8 | degree in Criminal Justice from Boston University in 2014; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Due to Officer Paliotta's tireless work ethic and impeccable integrity, he |
10 | steadily rose through the ranks, being promoted to Lieutenant in 2009, where he oversaw the |
11 | Patrol Division, before being reassigned in 2012 to serve as Acting Chief after the retirement of |
12 | then-Chief Jack Shippee; and |
13 | WHEREAS, In 2012, Michael Paliotta became a key member of newly appointed Chief |
14 | Allen's leadership team. Chief Allen praised Mr. Paliotta's dedication and professionalism by |
15 | stating that Officer Paliotta "proved to be a welcome resource with a vast knowledge of the town, |
16 | budgets and department operations"; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Thanks to the high esteem that Chief Allen and the entire Department had |
18 | for his professionalism and vast technical and management skills, Officer Paliotta was chosen to |
19 | be the department's first-ever Accreditation Manager in 2013, a move that was vital to the |

1 | department acquiring full state accreditation for the first time in 2017. In 2014, Chief Allen also |
2 | chose Officer Paliotta to serve as Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, overseeing |
3 | detectives, prosecution and accreditation; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Thanks to his lengthy resume of accomplishments and abiding loyalty to the |
5 | Town of Charlestown, Officer Paliotta was selected to be the Chief of the Charlestown Police |
6 | Department on March 1, 2018. Chief Paliotta already has plans in motion to make the department |
7 | an even better servant of the town's citizenry with plans to revamp the command staff, hire two |
8 | additional officers, and upgrade the department's technology proficiency. The citizens of |
9 | Charlestown are truly lucky to have a person so universally respected and admired as their new |
10 | Police Chief; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
12 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Mr. Michael Paliotta on being named the Police |
13 | Chief for the Town of Charlestown on March 1, 2018. We wish him well in all of his new duties |
14 | and responsibilities; and be it further |
15 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
16 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Michael Paliotta, Police Chief, Town of |
17 | Charlestown. |
