H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

WISHING SIDNEY WALTON, A 99-YEAR- OLD WORLD WAR II VETERAN, WELL ON

HIS "NO REGRETS TOUR", WELCOMING HIM TO THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND,

     AND THANKING HIM FOR HIS EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO OUR NATION

     WHEREAS, Mr. Sidney Walton, a 99-year-old veteran of World War II, has embarked

on a one-year "No Regrets Tour" of the United States in which he will travel to every state and

visit every state capital. Mr. Walton plans on meeting all of the Governors and many fellow

citizens and veterans on his whirlwind tour that will conclude on his birthday, February 19, 2019;

and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Walton got the idea for this trip through an event that occurred earlier in

his life. In 1940, a year before he joined the United States Army to serve our nation in World War

II, he missed a chance to meet some of the last few remaining Civil War Veterans in New York

City's Central Park. It was a missed opportunity that he has regretted his entire life; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Walton began his "No Regrets Tour" in New Orleans with a visit to the

National World War II Museum, will visit his birthplace in New York, the White House, and will

greet and meet countless veterans, dignitaries and appreciative citizens along the way. As the

"Greatest Generation" passes away, here is one last opportunity to thank a member of that

generation who served our nation so nobly through its period of greatest need. Their contributions

to our nation and in the preservation of civilization itself, should never be forgotten; now,

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby thanks Mr. Sidney Walton for his heroic and meritorious service to

our nation, joyously celebrates his "No Regrets Tour" of the United States, and warmly welcomes

him to the State of Rhode Island; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Sidney Walton.
