RELATING TO HEALTH AND SAFETY - STATE BUILDING CODE | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 23-27.3 of the General Laws entitled "State Building Code" is |
2 | hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 23-27.3-702. Short-term rentals - Code exemptions. |
4 | (a) Notwithstanding any general law, special law, public law, rule or regulation, building |
5 | code or fire safety code, or any existing residential dwelling unit, including, but not limited to, a |
6 | single family residence, apartment, condominium, or cooperative unit, which provides sleeping |
7 | accommodations for less than thirty (30) days, shall not be subject to: |
8 | (1) Any provision that mandates the compliance with the Rhode Island fire safety code |
9 | beyond the requirement for smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms pursuant to chapter 28.1 |
10 | of title 23. |
11 | (2) Any provision that mandates the compliance with accessibility requirements to which |
12 | places of public accommodations are subject to, including, but not limited to, those standards |
13 | required by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. |
14 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
