SCHOOL CHANGE MAKER AWARD AT GENERATION CITIZEN'S CIVIC DAY | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Generation Citizen's Program believes that all students "have the right |
2 | to an effective civics education that prepares them to participate in our democracy." The Program |
3 | teaches students various methods to engage with their democracy to produce meaningful change; |
4 | and |
5 | WHEREAS, Biannually, at the end of the fall and spring semesters, Generation Citizen |
6 | hosts Civics Day, where students’ projects are showcased. The students advocate for their issues |
7 | to a local audience and collect feedback on their plans from panels of judges; and |
8 | WHEREAS, As part of their involvement in the Generation Citizen's Program, students |
9 | from John Healy's history class at E-Cubed Academy developed an idea and began advocating for |
10 | legislation requiring every public high school in Rhode Island to have a functioning science |
11 | laboratory; and |
12 | WHEREAS, The students from E-Cubed Academy helped to draft House Bill 7974 and |
13 | provided testimony at the bill's hearing before the House Health, Education and Welfare |
14 | Committee, offering reasons why a fully-functional science lab in every high school in the state is |
15 | essential; and |
16 | WHEREAS, The student's efforts brought resounding support and admiration from the |
17 | judges and earned them the High School Change Maker Award; and |
18 | WHEREAS, It is essential and fitting to recognize our youth and to celebrate their |
19 | accomplishments. They are our future leaders. Ensuring that our students have the capacity and |

1 | the will to make change will build a brighter future for all Rhode Islanders; now therefore be it |
2 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
3 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates John Healy's history class students from E-Cubed |
4 | Academy on winning the High School Change Maker Award at Generation Citizen's Civic Day. |
5 | We furthermore wish them the very best of luck in all their future endeavors; and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
7 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. John Healy, E-Cubed Academy. |
