A N   A C T

RELATING TO EDUCATION - HEALTH AND SAFETY OF PUPILS

     Introduced By: Representatives Ucci, Fellela, Serpa, Lima, and O'Brien

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 16-21 of the General Laws entitled "Health and Safety of Pupils" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     16-21-37. Internet safety.

     (a) The department of education shall promulgate guidelines and rules and regulations for

every school district, private school, mayoral academy, and charter school, and make available on

its website, curriculum materials and such other materials as may assist local and regional school

committees, and governing bodies of any private school, mayoral academy, or carter school, in

developing instructional materials on Internet safety and the safe usage of social media.

     (b) Every school district shall include in its curriculum for all seventh grade students, a

four (4) hour unit of instruction on Internet safety, cyber safety and the safe usage of social

media. School districts may utilize materials provided by the department of education and the

curriculum shall be provided for the 2019-2020 school year.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
