CONGRATULATING THE CHARIHO BOYS BASEBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2018 | |
RHODE ISLAND DIVISION II BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP | |

1 | WHEREAS, The 2018 Chariho Boys Baseball Team achieved something no other |
2 | Chariho baseball team has been able to attain since 1966, when they won the 2018 Rhode Island |
3 | Division II Baseball Championship, the first such title for Chariho in fifty-two years; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The Chariho Baseball Team had an outstanding regular season, compiling a |
5 | sterling 15-3 conference record and finishing tied for first place with Ponaganset; and |
6 | WHEREAS, In the Division II Regional Playoffs, the Chariho Chargers dominated Mt. |
7 | St. Charles in the first game, shutting the Mounties out by the score of 10-0. Chariho then went |
8 | on to easily dispatch and sweep Mt. Hope High School by the identical scores of 5-0, setting up a |
9 | best of three finals series against their arch-rivals, Ponaganset High School; and |
10 | WHEREAS, After beating Ponaganset at McCoy Stadium by the score of 4-2 in the first |
11 | game of the finals series, the two rivals clashed again in a scintillating second, and final game of |
12 | the series, with Chariho emerging victorious by the score of 4-2. In a tense, hard-fought game, |
13 | Chariho entered the sixth inning with a 4-2 lead but were in a perilous situation with Ponaganset |
14 | having the bases loaded. Down in the count, Chariho starting pitcher and series Most Valuable |
15 | Player Sean Sposato knew he had to bear down and challenge the hitters with fastballs over the |
16 | plate and he did exactly that when he blew two fastballs past the hitter to end the threat and help |
17 | to clinch the Title for Chariho; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Winning a State Championship in a team sport is an immense |
19 | accomplishment, one requiring that every member of the team give one hundred percent and |

2 | Team had those qualities in abundance as they were led all season by the important contributions |
3 | provided by John Pellegrino, Luke Elson, Grant Vargo-Willeford, Alexander Radicioni, Devin |
4 | DiBiasio, Daniel LaBelle, Ethan Blanchard, Cameron Anderson, Will Beaudreau, Dylan LaBelle, |
5 | Kyle Abbott, Sean Sposato, Jared Powers, Benjamin Harrison, Mark Wightman, Maxwell Willett, |
6 | Zachary Snow and Liam Goldstein; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Chariho also benefitted all season from the innovative coaching and |
8 | outstanding leadership provided by Head Coach Andy Devereaux and Assistant Coaches John |
9 | Devereaux and Todd Guevremont; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
11 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the Chariho Boys Baseball Team for winning the |
12 | 2018 Rhode Island Division II Baseball Championship; and be it further |
13 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Andy Devereaux, Head Coach, Chariho |
15 | Baseball Team. |
