HONORING HELDER J. CUNHA FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF | |
THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Honorable Helder J. Cunha was first elected to the Ward 2 seat on the |
2 | East Providence City Council, where he also served as Assistant Mayor. On November 8th of |
3 | 2016, he was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 64 |
4 | which encompasses portions of the City of East Providence; and |
5 | WHEREAS, For the past two years, Representative Cunha has been a member of the |
6 | House Committee on Labor and the House Committee on Small Business; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Dedicated to his constituency and to the best interests of the City of East |
8 | Providence, Representative Cunha has championed both the efforts and the legislation that would |
9 | provide an income tax credit up to $500 for a property owner whose primary residence is located |
10 | in a municipality having a water or sewer rate calculated above the statewide rate average and |
11 | legislation to provide an income tax credit of 25 percent, not exceeding $250, of an elderly |
12 | taxpayer resident's water and sewer bills for their primary residence; and |
13 | WHEREAS, In addition to the long hours devoted to the State House, his wife, Sandra, |
14 | and his children Arianna, Jocelyn, and Roman, Representative Cunha is self-employed in the |
15 | construction industry and is a member of the Centro Cultural de Santa Maria; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Representative Cunha has improved the lives of many people through his |
17 | diligent efforts on behalf of his constituency and the citizens of this state, and he will be greatly |
18 | missed in the House Chamber; now, therefore be it |
19 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |

1 | Providence Plantations hereby honors Representative Helder J. Cunha as he concludes his service |
2 | in the Rhode Island House of Representatives. We thank him for a job well done, and extend our |
3 | sincere wishes for his continued health, happiness, and success; and be it further |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
5 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Helder Cunha. |
