EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF F. NORRIS PIKE | |

1 | WHEREAS, Mr. F. Norris Pike of Block Island and Wakefield passed away on |
2 | November 24, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Susan E. |
3 | Pike; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. Pike was born on October 23, 1952, to the late Harold S. and Claire S. |
5 | Pike of Block Island, and was a direct descendant of one of Block Island’s original settlers, |
6 | Trustrum Dodge. Mr. Pike attended school on Block Island and Narragansett before he attained a |
7 | degree from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts. After graduating |
8 | from college, Mr. Pike returned home to become the proprietor of Norris Pike, Design-Build, |
9 | Inc., a company he built and ran successfully for many years in which he became highly regarded |
10 | for his skill as a craftsman; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mr. Pike later embarked on a public service career in which he represented |
12 | the citizens of Block Island with vigor, passion and integrity, serving as the Second Warden of |
13 | the New Shoreham Town Council, and on several boards and commissions including the planning |
14 | board. Mr. Pike, is his role as a public servant, was a strong advocate for the Wind Farm and |
15 | cable, and for restructuring the power company to a ratepayer owned and controlled utility. He |
16 | also forcefully opposed the rampant usage of mopeds on Block Island. The vibrant quality of life |
17 | on Block Island was preserved thanks to the accomplishments of Mr. F. Norris Pike; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Mr. Pike was an avid lover of the sea and few things in life gave him more |
19 | enjoyment than cruising New Harbor in his Skiff, the Alvin E. Mr. Pike was also a devoted |
20 | family man and a dedicated father and grandfather. He was a wonderful friend to many and was |

1 | warmly regarded by all who knew him for his sense of humor and quick wit. He will be sorely |
2 | missed by his loving family and numerous friends but the memory of his accomplishments, |
3 | generosity and loving persona will live on in the hearts and memories of all who were blessed to |
4 | know him; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Besides his wife Susan, Mr. Pike leaves behind a son, Harold W. Pike, Esq., |
6 | and a daughter, Lily M. Pike, MD, and her husband Zachary Harnett, MD. He also leaves behind |
7 | a grandson, Jonah, and a brother, Frederic Pike; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
9 | hereby expresses its condolences to the Pike Family on the passing of Mr. F. Norris Pike; and be |
10 | it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Susan E. Pike and Family. |
