EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF PATRICIA M. GARRAHAN

     WHEREAS, Patricia “Patsy” M. Garrahan passed away on January 5, 2018. She was the

beloved wife of Michael R. Garrahan for forty-five years; and

     WHEREAS; Patsy was born in Providence, Rhode Island, a daughter of the late Thomas

and Mary Stewart. She was employed at the West Warwick School Department for twenty years,

where she worked as a Registrarian in the Guidance Department. She also devoted countless

hours in support of after-school activities; and

     WHEREAS, Patricia was a naturally giving person who was beloved by all who knew

her for her selfless service to others. She loved to make hot dogs for her sons’ sports teams and

when her son was deployed overseas, she sent dozens of cookies every couple of weeks to the

troops, earning her the title of “Cookie Mom”. Patsy’s favorite day of the year was the

Wednesday before Thanksgiving, when she would put together turkey donations for families in

need; and

     WHEREAS, In addition to her volunteer activities, Patricia enjoyed travelling with her

family. Her favorite destinations included Aruba, Saratoga, and the White Mountains in New

Hampshire. She was also a wonderful wife and mother who was an excellent cook and kept a

spotless home; and

     WHEREAS, Besides her husband, Michael, she leaves behind her two sons, Stephen

Garrahan and Ryan Garrahan and her six grandchildren, Courtney, Michael, Lorelai, Lorenzo,

Caroline, and Layla. She also leaves behind her eleven siblings, Mary Frechette and her husband,

Jerry, Thomas Stewart and his wife, Carol, Raymond Stewart and his wife, Dianne, Ann Mendes

and her late husband, Freddie, Rose Owen and her husband, Paul, Daniel Stewart and his wife,

Sharon, Richard Stewart and his wife, Yukie, Joan Rotella and her husband, Kenneth, James

Stewart and his wife, Jill, Dorothy Coffin and her husband, David, and Barbara Thurston and her

husband, Brent. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is predeceased by one brother, Edward Stewart; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby expresses its condolences to the Garrahan Family on the passing of Patricia M. Garrahan;

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Michael R. Garrahan and Family.
