S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING PAUL TETREAULT, NORTH KINGSTOWN HIGH SCHOOL TRACK

AND CROSS COUNTRY COACH, ON WINNING THE 2017 "HOMETOWN HERO

AWARD" FROM FLOSPORTS

     WHEREAS, FloSports, a producer of live digital sports, in partnership with Quicken

2

Loans, recently announced the launching of "Hometown Heroes", "an award to recognize the

3

finest coaches in the country who make an impact in the community by changing school-age

4

athletes' lives for the better"; and

5

     WHEREAS, Beginning in March of 2017, FloSports conducted a national search of

6

coaches who exhibited strong leadership and inculcated in their athletes both the ability to excel

7

in their sport and help build strong neighborhoods and communities through teamwork, goal

8

setting and a work ethic that doesn’t quit until the task at hand is completed. More than 1,000

9

nominees were examined involving 16 different sports and from these stellar candidates, five

10

coaches were selected; and

11

     WHEREAS, One of the five award winners is Paul Tetreault, the Head Coach of North

12

Kingstown High School’s track and cross country programs. Coach Tetreault has been a coach

13

for 25 years and while what he has accomplished in competition has been quite impressive, with

14

his teams annually contending for state championships, it’s the mark he has made off the playing

15

fields that has made a difference in the lives of his athletes and the wider community; and

16

     WHEREAS, Coach Tetreault is a big believer in "paying it forward" and has, with the

17

support of his family, including his wife Janice, son and daughter-in-law Ross and Melissa

18

Tetreault, his daughter and son-in-law Amber and Cliff Alston, his daughter Chelsea, his

19

grandchildren Paige Alston, Harper Alston, and Kairi Tetreault, and family nurse Erin Miller,

have spent countless hours donating their time in support of numerous community service events

2

including assisting the local Ronald McDonald House, aiding local road races, and cooking meals

3

for families with sick children. At the end of every email he sends to his athletes, he lists things

4

they can do to make a difference within their community; and

5

     WHEREAS, In recognition of Coach Paul Tetreault’s lifetime of service to others and for

6

making his community a better place in which to live, he will receive the FloSports "Hometown

7

Hero Award" and $25,000 to put towards a year’s worth of mortgage payments; now, therefore be

8

it

9

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

10

hereby congratulates coach Paul Tetreault on receiving the FloSports 2017 "Hometown Hero

11

Award"; and be it further

12

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

13

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Paul Tetreault, Head Coach, North

14

Kingstown High School Track and Cross Country.
