S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

     EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MARY E. MAGIERA

     WHEREAS, Mary E. "Betty" Magiera passed away on January 21, 2018 at Kent Hospital

2

surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Bernard F. "Benny" Magiera; and

3

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Magiera was born in West Warwick, the daughter of the late Charles J.

4

and Bertha Francis. She was a church organist for more than 60 years at various Diocesan

5

Parishes including St. Mary's Church in West Warwick and the former St. James Church. She

6

served God with her beautiful music and brought peace and grace to all who were privileged to

7

listen to her music; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Magiera was very active in community affairs. She served on the West

9

Warwick Democratic Town Committee, St. Xavier's Alumni Association, the Pawtuxet Valley

10

Historical Society and the West Warwick Senior Center Board; and

11

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Magiera is survived by her children, Rebecca Magiera, Christine

12

Matone and her husband, Michael, Patricia Legault and her husband, Rene, Linda Plante, Donna

13

Nester, Mary Beth Redmon and her husband, Jeff, Melissa Magiera, and Colonel John F. Magiera

14

of the West Warwick Police Department, and his wife, Kathleen. Mrs. Magiera is also survived

15

by her two siblings, Shirley Brown and Paul Francis. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren

16

and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Magiera was the mother of the late Michael B. Magiera and

17

the sister of the late Elsie O. Jusczyk and William Francis; now, therefore be it

18

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

19

hereby expresses its condolences on the passing of Mary E. Magiera; and be it further

20

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Rebecca Magiera, Christine Matone, Patricia

2

Legault, Linda Plante, Donna Nester, Mary Beth Redmon, Melissa Magiera, and Colonel John F.

3

Magiera.
