S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING AND RECOGNIZING CHARLES L. NILES, JR., FOR SIXTY-FIVE YEARS OF

DEVOTED SERVICE TO THE FREEMASONS

     WHEREAS, Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest Fraternity and follows three

2

great principles, Brotherly Love, Truth, and Charity; and

3

     WHEREAS, The organization is composed of people from all walks of life and since its

4

inception, has provided support for many widows and orphans of Freemasons as well as others

5

within the community; and

6

     WHEREAS, Charles L. Niles, Jr. was born on December 8, 1924, and for more than 65

7

years, has devotedly served the Masons in myriad capacities; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mr. Niles began his illustrious service with the Masons serving as Master of

9

Charity Lodge #23 in 1953 and in 1973. In 1997, he was the Master of Franklin Lodge #20 in

10

Westerly, in 2005, he served as Master of Washington Lodge #5, and in 2018, he served as

11

Master of Adelphoi Lodge #33 in Riverside; and

12

     WHEREAS, On a statewide level, Mr. Niles served as Grand High Priest of the Grand

13

Royal Arch Chapter of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations in 2000-2001, and as High Priest

14

of York Rite Chapter, which is a grouping of separate Rites joined in order. In 2003, he was

15

named Grand Marshall of Masons for Rhode Island. He was also the Assistant Grand Lecturer of

16

the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island, the Past President of the Secretary Guild, and President of the

17

Candidate Forums; and

18

     WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Niles twice served as Commander of the Narragansett

19

Commandery and three times as the Illustrious Master of the Narragansett Council; and

     WHEREAS, Charles Niles possesses exceptional knowledge, enviable leadership skills,

2

and devotion to service, and his accomplishments are eminently worthy of our recognition and

3

congratulations; now, therefore be it

4

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

5

hereby commends Charles L. Niles, Jr. on his sixty-five years of dedicated service to the

6

Freemasons. We applaud his achievements and wish him the very best health and continued

7

success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

8

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

9

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Charles L. Niles, Jr.
