S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ALICE D. AUGUSTUS

     Introduced By: Senators DiPalma, Seveney, and Lombardi

     WHEREAS, Alice D. Augustus, of Newport, passed away on February 8, 2018, at the

Village House Nursing Home. Mrs. Augustus was born on June 28, 1929, in Middletown, Rhode

Island, the daughter of the late Deulinda Silvia and Manuel P. Silvia. She was the loving wife of

the late Lawrence Augustus; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Augustus' was employed by Rhode Island Hospital Trust for thirty-two

years. After leaving the banking industry, she worked for the law offices of Joseph Palumbo,

Chris Behan and Joe Hook. She was also a member of the Vasco Da Gama Society of Newport

and was a past member of the Middletown Democratic Committee; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Augustus' first priority in her life was her family, where she created a

warm and loving home for her husband and children. She was a devoted wife and mother and a

wonderful friend to many. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her; and

     WHEREAS, Alice D. Augustus is survived by her five children, Lawrence Augustus, Jr.,

and his wife Eileen, Alice M. Hicks, Elizabeth Hicks, and her husband Ralph, Janice Tasso, and

her husband Jimmy, and Ronald Augustus, and his wife Karen. She is also survived by ten

grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby expresses its condolences to the Augustus Family on the passing of Alice D. Augustus;

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Lawrence Augustus, Jr., Alice M. Hicks,

Elizabeth Hicks, Janice Tasso, and Ronald Augustus.
