S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING AND COMMENDING MR. FRANK MEGLIO ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM

THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND AFTER TWENTY-TWO YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED

SERVICE

     WHEREAS, Mr. Frank Meglio, a resident of Cranston, is retiring from the State of

2

Rhode Island after thirty years of exemplary and tireless service. He earned his Bachelor of

3

Science degree in Zoology-PreMed and his Master’s degree in Clinical Microbiology and

4

Immunology from Northeastern University; and

5

     WHEREAS, Prior to his state service, Mr. Meglio served with distinction as the

6

supervisor of a clinical immunology and virus laboratory for Rhode Island Hospital and had been

7

appointed as an Adjunct Professor of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology with the University

8

of Rhode Island and the Community College of Rhode Island; and

9

     WHEREAS, Mr. Meglio began his meritorious public service career on November 12,

10

1995, when he accepted a position within the Department of Health Center for Biological

11

Sciences serving as a Public Health Microbiologist within the Sanitary Microbiology Laboratory.

12

His duties included analyzing drinking and beach water, shellfish, dairy products and food. In

13

2001, he became a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and took the lead in the development for testing

14

of the West Nile Virus, using serologic, molecular and viral tissue culture methods. Thanks to his

15

leadership and tireless work ethic, Arboviruses were later added to the capability of the Serology

16

Laboratory; and

17

     WHEREAS. During his tenure as a Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the Molecular

18

Biology Laboratory, Mr. Meglio has supported state and national surveillance and

19

epidemiological investigations of foodborne disease outbreaks. He will be sorely missed and long

remembered for his vast knowledge and expertise, his fervent desire to protect the public, and his

2

friendly demeanor. He truly was a consummate public servant; now, therefore be it

3

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

4

hereby honors and recognizes Mr. Frank Meglio for twenty-two years of distinguished and

5

exemplary public service on behalf of the State of Rhode Island. We furthermore wish him a most

6

happy retirement and good luck in all his future endeavors; and be it further

7

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

8

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Frank Meglio.
